These premises were formerly the offices of Shortridge, Howell and Co. John Shortridge, engineer and industrialist was influential in the building of the Wicker Arches. They were also formerly the offices of Samuel Osborn and Company Ltd which purchased the Clyde Works from Shortridge, Howell and Co. in 1868.
